“I like to chase squirrels, go on long walks and watch Pupper TV”
Lola's Lucky Day was officially formed on January 8, 2015. Founded by Larissa Gavin who wanted to help homeless animals in Houston, TX who had no other option. Originally from Wisconsin where the animal over-population problem does not exist at this level; she networked and formed relationships with partner rescue groups and shelters there to help place dogs once they were completely vetted.
In June of 2015, enough money was raised to purchase a rescue vehicle to transport our dogs from Houston to Wisconsin. Since then we have helped over 5,000 dogs who otherwise would have no chance. In 2017 Lola's Lucky Day also expanded its operations and rescue efforts to Dallas, TX.
Lola was one of the first dogs that we rescued and was adopted by a family in Houston. She lives a very spoiled life and is a great advocate for our rescue. We also think it's each dog's lucky day when we rescue them; hence "Lola's Lucky Day".
Larissa is a graduate of Texas A&M University Mays Business School. She and her husband Mark have two rescue dogs, Millie and Cupcake.
I had been volunteering at Lola’s for a few months when two 10-week-old chiweenies came in. I was a senior in high school and absolutely fell in love with one of them. Now my parents did not want another dog and were completely against getting a puppy, so I brought one of them home and told my parents we were just fostering. Both of them immediately fell in love with her, and she is basically a fourth child to them. Charlotte goes everywhere with my parents, including Colorado, British Colombia, Rhode Island, and more. She goes boating when it’s warm and lays by the fireplace when it’s cold. She became best friends with my older dog, who was also a rescue, and they absolutely love playing together and chasing each other around our backyard.
Thank you so much for helping to bring Elle (Ellie) into our lives! She was transferred to New Beginnings Shih Tzu Rescue in mid-November, and then to our home two weeks ago. She is a sweet, playful girl. She is adjusting wonderfully. We are so thrilled to have her. Thank you so very, very much for everything you did for her! We are so appreciative!!
Josie has brought so much to our home: love, warmth, snuggles, laughter, exercise, and did I mention love, love, love.
